| Third Front configuration: First meeting convened today | | 15 members to discuss roadmap for 'viable' political alternative | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 24: At a time when the political spectrum of J&K is surrounded by highly controversial clouds with revelations made by ex Army chief VK Singh, which has in particular ruffled feathers in the ruling elite, a political activity is taking place albeit quietly in the summer capital, which when takes a formal stride may upset many a stalwarts and the parties already in reckoning in the state. In what can be seen as the political ball being set rolling towards formation of a Third Front, alternative to regional outfits in government formation in the sensitive state, first formal meeting is taking place in Srinagar tomorrow.
Sources said that a meeting has been convened by the political heavyweights in Kashmir who are already on the forefront of giving a proper format to the political outfit which would be essentially an amalgam of various smaller groups in the mainstream politics. Sources said as many as 15 leaders belonging to different political parties, including national parties would assembly on a common platform tomorrow to discuss the contours and composition of the Third Front. Though over a dozen leaders are already in the pipeline have consented to be a part of this to be launched group of parties /leaders, the focus of efforts in the first meeting tomorrow would be explore the like minded people who would be taken on board before this Front is launched, sources said.
Sources said in the meeting which is the first activity which may upset permutations and combinations of already established parties which have carved a comfortable place, no matter by what means, in the political spectrum is all set to spring a surprise to many as there are few unexpected leaders who may be a part of the Front in time ahead. The meeting tomorrow would discuss broadly the composition of the Front , though the outfit would be kept open for like minded to come on board , but more importantly it would deliberate as to what should be and what would be the roadmap of the Third Front before it enters the election mode and ride the wave of preparations on a common , if not the same wave length for polls scheduled next year, sources said. While a joint statement by four senior politicians Hakim Mohammad Yasin, MY Tarigami, Sheikh Abdul Rehman and Abdul Rashid Kabuli stirred the political waters two weeks back as to some activity is in offing, tomorrow's formal meeting makes it abundantly clear that formation of Third Front in J&K is only a matter of time now. |
