NC should feel grateful to General VK Singh
9/24/2013 11:59:04 PM

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 24: The pro-autonomy National Conference (NC), which hates the Indian Constitution from the core of its heart and speaks for and on behalf of Pakistan and anti-India forces in Kashmir day in and day out, has unleashed a vilification campaign through one Jammu-based party leader against former Army chief General VK Singh and demanded CBI inquiry against him. The NC, which never felt comfortable with the General Singh, took the Defence Ministry leaked report as an opportunity to settle score with the former Army chief. General Singh had rejected out of hand the NC's demand seeking revocation of the AFSPA and withdrawal of the Army from Kashmir.
The Defence Ministry leaked report had said that the former Army chief allegedly misused the secret funds to topple the NC-led coalition government in 2010. Actually, the report said that the former General and his men hobnobbed with Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir in order to get the Omar Abdullah-led government toppled, as General VK Singh allegedly disliked Omar Abdullah. The report also said that an amount of Rs 1.19 crore was paid to Mir to achieve the objective. How ridiculous! In Jammu and Kashmir, Rs one crore means nothing.
The NC leadership is making a mountain out of a mole-hill and, like the Congress, demonizing General V K Singh. Those who know something about the role that he and his Commanders played in before and after June 2010 would surely vouch for the fact that it was the Army which salvaged the situation for Omar Abdullah and agree that had the Army not played an active role between June and August 2010, Omar Abdullah's unpopular government would have collapsed the same year. It would not be out of place to mention here that it was for the first time that the Congress-led UPA Government censured Omar Abdullah and held his government responsible for the trouble in Kashmir saying it was the governance deficit and trust deficit that led to the rise of stone throwers in the Kashmir Valley.
When will the NC leadership see reason and behave in a responsible manner? It is time for the well-wishers and friends of India to unite and fight out those who are willfully undermining the institution of the Army and demoralizing our soldiers for vote-bank politics. It is disgusting that certain political parties, which lost the people's confidence, are playing dubious games and harming the paramount national interests.
