Ladakh Congress workers also voted for independents | Pre Poll alliance with NC was a mistake: Karbalai | | Javaid Naikoo SRINAGAR, May 10: At a time when cross voting issue has already ignited fire within NC and Congress camps of Kashmir, the Ladakh wing says that due to prevailing internal bickering NC and Congress followers voted for independent candidates. While accusing higher ups of both the parties to form pre poll alliance without taking workers on board, senior Congress member and Chief Executive councilor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) of Kargil District, Haji Asgar Ali Karbalai said that like Kashmir cross voting happened in Ladakh too. He said pre poll alliance was a mistake committed by higher ups as it remained restricted to papers only and instead of any development in positive sense, the alliance is now a cause of worry as NC and Congress office bearers are up against each other across the state due to trust deficit. "We have fielded our own candidate to contest independently as we distanced ourselves from pre- poll alliance and I must tell you that not only Congress followers but NC followers too in good numbers also voted for our independent candidate," he said. He said that not only Congress followers are distancing themselves from NC leadership but also in areas like Kargil age old followers of NC who voted for independent candidates instead of alliance candidate namely T-Sampal are expressing anger and resentment against their higher ups due to disrespect for lower party grades over the years. On alliance with NC for Assembly elections, Karbalai said 'it was bad experience. Congress workers in Ladakh are against such alliance, he said. "If NC blames Congress for cross voting in Kashmir that means NC has admitted defeat," he said He said the NC leadership must wait up to May 16. Pertinently LAHDC of Kargil District fielded their own candidate, Ghulam Raza to contest against alliance candidate namely T-Sampal while as NC Kargil unit instead of supporting alliance candidate also fielded Mohammad Syed Qazmi to contest Parliamentary elections independently. |
