Kishtwar, Aug 22: Mocking at the initiatives of the government to avail free school education to the children, there are reports that several government schools in Kishtwar district are duping poor students and their parents by demanding fee from them under various heads.
After reports of charging of extra monthly as well as examination fee by the private schools in Doda and Kishtwar District, the people from various rural areas of Doda District are now complaining that the managements of varoius government schoools in Doda and its peripheral areas have repeatedly been charging extra examination fee from the poor students.
As per the details available with "EarlyTimes" the fresh incident of charging exorbitant fee from the poor students has come to fore when these schools were found selling examination forms at exorbitant prices.
Among the list of such schools is Government Middle School Lower Birshalla which charged Rs 240 per student instead of Rs 100 as fee for fill up of the examination form, while Government Middle school Dudawah charged Rs 160 & L. H.S Dashnan charges Rs 150. When contacted, the officals confirmed to " Early Times" that the actual fee prescribed by the government is only Rs 100 per student. In addition to the allegations of charging extra fee for examination forms, locals also alleged that Headmaster government M S Lower Birshalla collected Rs 100 per student on the pretext of providing them pre-matric scholarship from social walfare department, while in fact,; it is totally free for all the poor students .The people said that it is very strange that all these schools are situated near District headquarter Doda, but officers of Education department are silent on this serious issue of open loot. The locals also claimed that they visited C E O office Doda several times, addeing that CEODodaMohdIqbal Mughal seems busy in doing the mass level transfers of RETs/teachers from Rural areas to either in city or in the adjoining to city areas. The people said that the locals are hoping that newly posted Deputy Commissionar Doda ShayamVinod Meena& SSP Doda Mohammad Sharief Chowhan will personally intervened in the matter and will ensure justice to the poor parents by refunding the extra amount looted by teachers to them, besides will take strict action against the teachers involved in open loot.
