AMCCC dismayed over ‘inapt’ choice of Kashmiri Pandit candidates for Habba Kadal | Want a person with clean image to fight elections, refers to Moti Koul as ‘outsider’ | | Jehangir Rashid
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 9: A prominent organization of displaced Kashmiri Pandits has expressed dismay and concern that the community has failed to give mandate to an ideal person from the Habba Kadal assembly segment of the Srinagar district for the upcoming assembly elections. The All Migrant Camps Coordination Committee (AMCCC) believes that a Kashmiri Pandit with clean image with mass base should have been given the mandate from Habba Kadal. The Committee says that failure in this regard has meant Kashmiri Pandits may lose the opportunity of choosing their own person for this constituency. “Habba Kadal is an important constituency for the Kashmiri Pandits and their voting pattern decides the fate of the candidates fighting the elections. It is quite unfortunate that we could not field an ideal candidate from this constituency. This is bound to act as a setback to the Kashmiri Pandit candidates fighting the elections from this constituency,” said Desh Ratan Pandita, Chairman All Migrant Camps Coordination Committee. Sharing his views with Early Times, Pandita said that the Kashmiri Pandit candidates fighting from Habba Kadal lack the vision and as such would not be able to do enough for the community and the problems being faced by community members. He made a particular mention of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) candidate from this assembly segment. “BJP has given mandate to Moti Koul despite the fact that he left the Kashmir valley much before the exodus of community members in 1990. He is based in Mumbai and has no connect whatsoever with the Kashmiri Pandits living in different parts of India. He has got no feel of the problems faced by the community members ever since they moved out of Kashmir,” said AMCCC Chairman. Pandita asked the people to exercise their right to vote with wisdom so that the ‘rejected’ politicians don’t get chance to sit in the assembly. He said the politicians who have ditched the masses over the years don’t deserve to be elected for the state legislature. He said defection going on at a rapid pace should be viewed with caution by the electorate. “Ever since election bugle has been sounded people have crossed floors and joined parties which they considered to be untouchable. As such the people should be well aware about these developments and they should vote accordingly. This would ensure that the deserving people would get elected while as the exploiters would be shown the door,” said AMCCC Chairman. Pandita said that politicians with vested interests have joined Peoples Democratic Party and Bharatiya Janta Party since they know that these parties are set to form government in state or have already formed the same at the centre. He asked the leaders of PDP and BJP to take utmost care while dealing with these politicians so that there is no bad name to these parties. “Going by the pre-poll surveys it is quite possible that PDP may form the new government in the state. On the other hand BJP is in power at the centre and trying best to get the power in the state. The leaders of both these parties should keep an eye on the turncoats so that there is no bad name to them,” said AMCCC Chairman. |
