SRINAGAR, Nov 9: Defence Minister, Arun Jaitley has made clear that dialogue and cease-fire violations cannot go together.
At the Indian global forum summit, Jaitley said that 'if repeated ceasefire violations take place on LoC then environment for dialogue itself suffers and added that India is though committed to start a meaningful dialogue process with Pakistan but at the same time Pakistan need to proceed ahead with true intentions so that dialogue process could reach to the logical conclusion.
"We will welcome dialogue but then the environment for dialogue has to be created by both countries, one cannot upset the environment and then say why dialogue is not taking place."
He also said that dialogue process had begun from Foreign Secretary level talks but was sabotaged by Pakistan with invitation to separatists.
Pertinently the dialogue process was derailed after Pakistan held a meeting with the separatist leaders in New Delhi just a day before the Foreign Secretary-level talks were scheduled to be held in August this year.
Jaitley said that there are issues in Kashmir, but the Valley has been by and large peaceful now and they are expecting peaceful elections in the Jammu and Kashmir notwithstanding efforts to disturb the environment at this moment.
He said that during the recent devastating floods in Kashmir armed forces showed exemplary courage in rescue and relief operations and added that India is keenly watching all the developments happening at different fronts associated with Kashmir borders and rest of states of the country.
He said that 'as far as China is concerned, our economic relationship continues to grow from some time now and there are a lot of mutual investments in both countries, besides there are huge trade transactions which are going on between the two countries.
He said at the same time both the countries have some pending issue of settlement related to boundaries and the one commission has already been appointed in 2003 for that purpose, so India is hopeful that it functions now expeditiously so that we can continue to have a meaningful dialogue with them as well. Defence Minister said that India is keen with regard to the border issue pertaining with many countries and added that India is keen for expediting the process to resolve the matters with peacefully.
