Acknowledges coalition failed to deliver; says BJP didn't help flood victims | Sonia breaks silence, blames NC for failures | | Early Times Report chanderkote/Bandipora, Nov 21: Breaking her silence for the first time in past six years, the Chairperson of the All India Congress Committee Sonia Gandhi today launched a scathing attack at her party's estranged ally National Conference (NC) and blamed it for not implementing the programmes and schemes, including food security bill, in the state of the erstwhile Congress led UPA regime in the Centre. Sonia, while addressing an election rally held at Chanderkote in Ramban district in support of her party candidate Ashok Kumar, said: "There are many reasons due to which good governance could not be delivered in coalition as NC remained as impediment to every effort envisaged by Congress to develop Jammu and Kashmir." She acknowledged that Congress party failed to deliver due to it sharing power with NC, but she was quick to add that her party put in all the efforts to keep all the three regions of the state gelled together. Appealing the people to beware of the divisive forces, Sonia blamed Bhartiya Janta Party for promoting communal disparity among the people of erstwhile Doda. "Saffron party can go to any extent and join hands with the forces inimical to communal brotherhood in the state while promoting its divisive agenda in these elections. We have to keep a vigil so that communal division being promoted by BJP could be defeated," she said. Counting the achievements of the previous UPA regime she said, "UPA government left no stone unturned to develop all the sectors in Jammu and Kashmir." Explaning the role of Congress party in future Sonia said that much is left to be undertaken on the education and employment front in the state and Congress has a comprehensive plan for that. She also mentioned that due share would be given to the displaced people of the state on the pattern extended to Kashmiri Pandits of the Valley. Referring to the role of women in the forthcoming assembly polls in JK, Sonia said, "They have a major role to play in deciding the future of the candidates." |
