Inexperienced BJP candidates give wrong feedback to top brass | Party loses way in Kashmir, winning any seats uphill task | | Early Times Report srinagar, Nov 21: Inexperienced candidates providing wrong feedback to the BJP high command has made the party lose its way in Kashmir and experts are of the opinion that it may not even open its account in the Valley. Despite top BJP leaders asking their candidates to refrain from making the abrogation of Article 370 as its election plank contestants seem to be least bothered about the instructions being passed to them and are hell bent upon creating chaos and confusion among the masses. Sources told Early Times that a few BJP leaders in Kashmir believe that they can woo the voters by claiming that Article 370 is "untouchable' and if they make people believe it they may be able to get some votes. The BJP insiders said that recently an Australian diplomat met a BJP candidate in Srinagar. The candidate, according to the sources, informed the diplomat that if BJP has to win the elections in Kashmir then Muslim candidates have to put up a "brave face" and oppose the people who are advocating the revocation of the Article 370 from the state. The diplomat, sources said, was amazed at the assertion made by the contestant as he was made to believe in New Delhi by the BJP leaders that party stands for complete integration of JK with rest of the country and Article 370 is a debatable issue. Sources said that a few candidates are giving "wrong feedback" to the party leaders who are visiting Kashmir for election campaigning due to which top leaders are issuing contradictory statements over BJP's stand on the Article 370. On Wednesday BJP's state vice-president Ramesh Arora while addressing a news conference in Srinagar assured the people that no one would touch the Article 370, while the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh while addressing a gathering at Kishtwar on the same day said that Article 370 is debatable and BJP's stand is clear on it. An analyst while talking to Early Times said that BJP leaders in Kashmir have realized that their chances of even opening their account in the Valley are bleak. "Contradictory statements over Article 370 are a result of lack of coordination among the BJP leaders and Valley based BJP candidates being nervous," he added. The analyst said that state BJP leaders created hype about party's Mission 44 plus in the state. "People who have joined the BJP in the recent past in Kashmir are all new faces. They were unaware about the ground realities. To get close to the BJP top leaders they acted as yes men and party is paying a heavy price for it. At present harsh realities are staring at them and they are unable to digest it," he added. A senior BJP leader said, "Party's stand on Article 370 is clear and more importantly our entire leadership believes in complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country. Let us hold a debate over this issue and analyze how this Article has benefitted people of Jammu and Kashmir. We believe it has more drawbacks than advantages" the leader added. He alleged that Kashmiri leaders rake this issue for their own political interest. "We want to ask these leaders what's left in Article 370. It has been eroded by the same people who are swearing by it today," he added. Most people are of the opinion that "BJP has lost the way" in Kashmir and it would be very difficult for the party to make inroads in the Valley due to its wavering statements and "inexperienced "candidates. "BJP should concentrate on Jammu region rather than eyeing the Valley. If they keep on issuing different statements everyday they would even lose their base in Jammu region as most people in the area are of the opinion that Article 370 should be done away with and BJP is the only party which can take such a bold initiative," said a political observer. |
