Anantnag, Jan 28: Dozens of fake ration cards in Consumer affairs and Public distribution (CAPD) have allegedly surfaced in Srigufwara area of this southern district during the past two months. According to official sources fake ration cards being prepared by the officials, surfaced after a group a locals from the village approached higher-ups of the department with the grievance that the department didn't provide free ration to deserving families. Informed sources said that few blue-eyed political activists have managed to get fake ration cards from the department while as the poor families are being ignored. They said that a political worker of the area holds six ration cards and receives food supply from the all six ration cards. "Imagine the power of a political worker whose family comprising six family members holding six ration cards from the department." A middle rung official of the department told early Times. He said that the fake ration cards haven't been given to blue-eyed political workers in Srigufwara but the officials of the department have given ration cards to others as well under political pressure. "The actual number of families in Srigufwara is 120 but there are 186 ration cards." He claimed, adding if probed fairly, it could turn out to be a big scam in the CAPD department which is already known for scams. Locals in the area too demanded a fair probe into the alleged issuance of fake ration cards to blue-eyed political workers. "We are sure that the these political workers hold double ration cards and are looting the department so it is the due responsibility of not only the department but of the police and vigilance department to probe it fairly," Shabir Ahmad, a resident said. He said that besides a probe, department should handover a complete list of the families to the village head so that it gets easy to know who has acquired the ration cards fraudulently. Assistant Director CAPD Anantnag, when contacted assured probe and swift action against the involved officials. "I am not aware but it, now you have brought it in my knowledge I will get things confirm from concern supply officer (TSO)." He said. |
