PDP-BJP government anytime, leaders give final touches to broader contours of 'unique' alliance | Brief Governor Vohra about latest developments | | Jehangir Rashid ET Report SRINAGAR, Jan 28: Slowly but surely, the impasse over the government formation in the state seems to be coming to an end as top notch leaders of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) today met Governor Narendra Nath Vohra at the Raj Bhawan in Jammu. Leaders of both these parties made their point clear to the Governor with regard to the government formation and also apprised him of the pace of talks going on between them in this respect. Indications are that PDP-BJP government would assume power in the state even though the swearing may not take place before conclusion of assembly elections in Delhi. Ever since the declaration of results of the 2014 assembly elections of the state leaders of PDP and BJP have been engaged in behind the curtain parleys over the government formation. Many rounds of talks were carried out between these leaders but so far the government has not been formed in the state. PDP's MLA from Rajpora constituency in South Kashmir's Pulwama district Dr. Haseeb Drabu called on the Governor at the Raj Bhawan today. Dr. Drabu apprised the Governor about the realizations which have emerged from the PDP-BJP parleys on government formation which have been continuing for the past about a month and the broad contours of the matters being finalized in the coming days. Before that Ram Madhav, National General Secretary of BJP, accompanied by Jugal Kishore, President State BJP and Member of Parliament and senior BJP leader Nirmal Singh, MLA Billawar, called on Governor. During the course of nearly one hour long meeting Madhav informed the Governor about the present status of the ongoing BJP-PDP discussions on the formation of the new government in Jammu & Kashmir. It would be in place to mention here that it was for the second time that Madhav and Jugal called on the Governor and discussed the possibilities of the PDP-BJP government in the state. Today's meeting of the BJP leaders assumes significance since it has come out that both the parties have almost agreed to form the next government in the state. Drabu's today meeting with the Governor was also the second one in the recent past. He in his previous meeting had briefed the Governor about the progress of dialogue with BJP over the formation of government in the state. In today's meeting the PDP legislator briefed the Governor about the progress of talks with the BJP leaders with respect to government formation. Pertinently the MLA from Rajpora has come up as a key man in PDP and is being seen as a close confidante of PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, that too at the cost of party veteran Muzaffar Hussain Beigh. Drabu has been 'authorized' to talk with the BJP leaders and also ink the deal in case there are no major hiccups between the two parties. Mufti had recently said that PDP's aim is to provide a stable government in the state and not one that can collapse at any point of time. He said that he would vouch for the dignity of the people across the state adding that development would be the main driving force of the new government if he leads the same. |
