Formal announcement of BJP-PDP Government in next 4 days: Ashok Koul | | | Majid Nabi Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Jan 28: Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) today cleared air on month long 'deadlock' over government formation in the state saying the final announcement will be made in next four days. Addressing media persons here, BJP State General Secretary, Ashok Koul however said that the party has not compromised with PDP on any major issue except the Chief Ministerial position. "Mufti Mohammad Sayeed will head the coalition government for full term, though we have not compromised on any major issue with the PDP. Final announcement on government formation will be made in next four days," Koul said on sidelines of party's online mass membership drive at a local hotel here. Brushing aside any possibilities of diluting or revoking Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), he said that his party is of the belief that the act is indispensable till militancy is not completely wiped off from the state. "How is it possible to revoke AFSPA from one part and continue in other? Suppose we revoke the Act from Srinagar obviously the city being AFSPA free would be the safe haven for militants to carry out their activities. I don't think that the time is ripe to invalidate AFSPA till militancy is over," Koul said. He said that BJP is committed to develop Jammu and Kashmir and there would be no compromise as the people here want a change. He claimed the common minimum program on which the BJP has agreed upon is development of the state, end of unemployment and boost in tourism sector. "BJP is committed over the development of Jammu and Kashmir; our main aim is to generate new methods of employment and boost in tourism sector. There would be an end of unemployment in the state if the tourism sector is strengthened," said Koul. He said that the party has started many workshops in the valley so that the people in large numbers join BJP. "We have started a membership drive in the state. We have set a target to for every member to bring in 100 others in the party fold to meet its basic target of three lakh members in the valley," he said.
