Amira Kadal constituency residents accuse former MLA of misappropriation in funds | | | Majid Nabi Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Jan 31: Hailing the services of MLA elect for Amira Kadal, Syed Altaf Bukhari, people of the constituency accused the National Conference Provincial President and former MLA Nasir Aslam Wani for misappropriation of funds and undue benefits to his workers. People in Natipora, Mehjoor.Nagar, Chanapora and Abi Guzar, once strong bastions of NC claimed that Wani bore the brunt of his own sick policies which lead to his humiliating defeat in assembly elections with huge margin. These people said that Wani after winning elections in 2008 never ever bothered to even enquire about the people who casted their votes in his favour. "He is a selfish person we have ever seen, we had heard that politicians after coming to power forget people, but the way Wani ditched us was all embarrassing," said Riyaz Ahmad Koka of Abi Guzar. Koka said when September 7, floods last year wrecked havoc far and wide in the valley and people spend nights under open sky, it was Bukhari who despite being equally affected by the floods left his doors open for flood hit families. "Despite being staunch supporters of election boycott, every single person participated in the elections wholeheartedly and gave befitting answer to Wani by ensuring victory of Bukhari in the elections," said Koka. A former worker of NC leader wishing anonymity said that Wani had anticipated his defeat at the hands of businessmen turned politician Bukhari. "From 2008 till 2014, Wani has never bothered to look into the issues of the people. He had confined his responsibility in constructing community halls only, while Bukhari from the day first of his victory worked day night for the development of the constituency," he said. In a startling revelation another close associate of Wani revealed that he distributed home appliances among the people during which otherwise meant to distribute among the floods. The close associate said that flood relief was distributed among the people during elections with the hope that people will cast their votes in his favour. Some of the residents of the constituency alleged that Wani had also distributed cash on eve of elections in some of the areas where he was sure to take lead. These people said that former MLA lost his money and gifts and also could not retain his seat. It has been learnt that some of the workers of Wani tried to tempt people in lieu of money and jobs, but they refused to entertain his excuses. |
