Defeated NC, Cong ministers yet to get over hangover of power | They continue to occupy official bungalows, enjoy massive security cover, princely lifestyles | | ET Report JAMMU, Jan 31: Even after the electoral drubbing, the defeated Congress and NC ministers are yet to get over the hangover of power. They continue to occupy official bungalows and enjoy massive security cover and princely lifestyles. On any given day, they can be seen in public gatherings with dozens of PSOs escorting them. Their humiliating defeat at the hands of BJP and PDP candidates in the 2014 state assembly polls has still not brought any change in their princely lifestyles. While they are not even MLAs now, many of them still use red beacon lights atop their official and private vehicles. "This is unlawful. They cannot use beacon lights atop their vehicles and should also immediately return their official cars to the government," a veteran J&K politician said. Since they had not voluntarily vacated their official bungalows, they were likely to be served eviction notices, official sources said and added that they were still coping with life after their spell in power. Their defeat in the state polls has also brought to fore the quality of their leadership like never before. They are not ready to shift to their "retirement" homes and none of them has so far asked the governor to remove the security ring around them. The only common thing in all of them as of now is that they have grown less audible. Except for Omar, no major political statement has come from any of them. Also, there has been no post-poll work by the two alliance partners to find out the reasons of their defeat. Instead of going among the people, they seem to be more concerned about enjoying the official facilities which they enjoyed when they were ministers. |
