'Omar's accusation vindicated NC worker was murdered' | Would new govt take a call over Haji Yousuf's death? | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 6: With every possibility of PDP-BJP forging an alliance to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir there is every chance about the new dispensation reopening the high profile murder case of NC worker Haji Yusuf, who died allegedly in custody after being summoned by the former chief minister Omar Abdullah to his Gupkar residence in Srinagar in 2011. Interestingly, the former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah invited trouble for himself onDecember 5 last year when he in a public rally alleged that National Conference leader Haji Yusuf died in the custody of former IGP Crime Raja Aijaz Ali who is now Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, in September 2011. Omar's statement backfired with Haji's son Syed Talib Husssain saying that the statement of Omar Abdullah has vindicated that his father didn't die a natural death. 'He was murdered,' accused Talib while appealing Prime Minister to take a call in this matter. Raja Aijaz Ali, the former IG crime and a present PDP leader too reacted to Omar's allegation. Joining the chorus and breaking the silence, he accused Omar Abdullah of trying to leveling serious allegations against him saying "no matter how clean imaged Omar Abdullah may try to present himself, he will always stand out in history as the main accused in the Haji Yousuf case." Pertinently, Omar Abdullah, while addressing an election rally at Uri had accused Raja Aijaz of being involved in the death of Haji Yousuf. "Go and check the records in Crime Branch, Haji Yousuf was with us only for twenty minutes. As soon as he reached the headquarters of Crime Branch, his health deteriorated and we immediately shifted him to hospital. His (Haji Yousuf's) face and body language indicated that he was harassed, tortured and beaten up at the residence of Chief Minister," Raja Ajaz Ali said. "It is a fact on record that Haji Yousuf was summoned by Omar Abdullah himself to his Gupkar residence to settle some murky money dealings. On the directions of Omar, his conduits forcibly brought Haji Yousuf to his residence, interrogated, and harassed him from 3 pm to 6:15 pm. Even CCTV footage showed how hale and hearty Haji Yousuf was when he entered into the house of Chief Minister and the same CCTV footage displayed how much he was under stress after coming out from the room," said Raja Ajaz Ali, adding that to hush up the matter, Omar Abdullah constituted one-man Bedi Commission with an intent that its recommendations could have no binding on him. The former IG Crime who contested on PDP ticket from Uri assembly segment and stood second after NC's Mohammad Shafi Uri stated that hours after the death of Haji Yousuf, Omar Abdullah transferred his personal security officer. "Omar transferred his personal security officers, especially Shabir Ahmed as it was known to him that his conduits and security officers tortured and harassed Haji Yousuf. Can Omar tell the people why he transferred his personal security officers soon after the death of Yousuf," Aijaz said. Meanwhile, son of Haji Yousuf, Raja Aijaz Ali stated that there are enough evidences against the former chief minister about his involvement in the death of his father. "The CCTV footage clearly shows that how my father went inside CM's residential office and came out in a disheveled state. There were also two witnesses to the incident. We strongly believe that my father was murdered," Hussain said. "To sort out the matter, Nasir Aslam Wani called my father at CM's residence and tortured him there. Davinder Singh Rana and CM's security guard Shabir Ahmed were also present in the room when my father was manhandled," Hussain said. He said the statement of Omar Abdullah should be taken as a testimony that his father died in custody and not by natural death. "We appeal Supreme Court to take cognizance of Omar Abdullah's recent statement which made it clear that Yousuf died in custody. We want immediate registration of FIR into the case," he added. Yousuf had been called to Omar's residence after NC workers Mohammad Yousuf Bhat and Abdul Salam Rishi accused him of taking bribe of Rs 1.18 crore from them. While Reshi wanted a berth in the Legislative Council, Bhatt supposedly wanted a ministry. As Haji's dearth sparkled accusations from PDP and wanted the case be re-investigated after one man Justice Bedi commission gave clean chit to Omar Abdullah, it remains to be seen would PDP bring the truth to fore. |
