Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 6: Division Chief, Radiobiology, Ohio State University, USA Prof. Altaf Wani delivered an invited talk on Protein modifications modulating DNA repair response at SMVD University. School of Biotechnology, SMVDU hosted the talk which was attended by all the students, research scholars, staff and faculty members of the School.
According to press release, Prof. Wani, besides other achievements to his credit, is an Elected Fellow, American Association for the Advancement of Sciences. He is highly active in basic and applied research, exhaustively exploring and developing newer paradigms in the realm of molecular oncology. Over the years, his lab at OSU has primarily delved in understanding the nature and repercussions of deleterious interaction of xenobiotics and the genome, trace the individual and coordinated response events in diverse normal as well as cancer cells and most importantly delineate the underlying mechanistic basis of their role in disease pathogenesis. His work continues to dissect the processing of genomic lesions and unravel the cross-talk among closely related network of pathways with the aim of developing intervention strategies for disease elimination.
During the talk he introduced the audience to the work done by his group in unraveling the role of protein modifications in DNA damage and repair. Further, he explained how normal cells overcome or succumb to the deleterious effect of xenobiotic environmental exposures. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. SharadaPotukuchi, Assistant Professor, SBT.
Earlier, Prof. Wani held discussion with Prof. S K Jain, Vice Chancellor of the University to explore possibilities of collaboration between SMVDU and OSU. Dr. S Potukuchi and Dr. Rakesh Kumar took Prof. Wani for a tour of various labs in the School. Prof. Wani also interacted with the faculty members and research scholars of SBT. The visit was coordinated by Dr. Samantha Vaishnavi, Assistant Professor, SBT.
