Handloom Expo-2015 turns into 'flop show' | Deptt chooses wrong venue, participants wait for customers | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 13: Weavers and craftsmen who are participating in the ongoing much hyped Handloom Expo-2015, Dast-E-Hunar hereon Friday said that expo is all set to turn into a "flop show" due to what they said, "ill planning" of the Handloom department. Weavers from various parts of the state have put their merchandize for sale at Dushera ground in Gandhi Nagar here. "There is very limited parking space for the visitors," said Saleem a visitor, adding that the management of State Handloom department should have held the event in open area where visitors could have moved freely. He suggested that the exhibition should have been held at exhibition ground near press club Jammu, where there is abundant parking space. Terming the exhibition as a formality by concerned department, Sunita a housewife said that Gandhi Nagar is a posh locality and only a few customers visit this area. "This is national export Mela, but due to lack of promotion a very few people know about it. If the organizers had given some publicity to the expo huge crowd would have turned up. It has proved to be a flop show," she said. Another visitor said there are number of showrooms of branded items around Dushera ground and people prefer to visit those showrooms instead of the fair organized by the government. "Even serial numbers are not displayed properly on the makeshift shops. It is difficult for a customer to find the shop without proper hoarding", he said.
