| Health Minister insults senior doctor in Jammu | | Visits different hospitals reprimands medicos | | Bashir Assad

Jammu, Mar 9: Infamously known for misbehaving with doctors and medicos since he took over as the Minister for Health and Medical Education for the first time in 2002, Chaudhry Lal Singh is back with the baggage of insult to the otherwise highly respected fraternity.
This time, the first casualty is a senior doctor in the Psychiatric Department at Government Medical College, Jammu. On Monday morning, Dr Gurmeet Kaur was abused and insulted in front of the hospital staff, her seniors and students.
Dr Gurmeet Kaur is the Registrar of the Department of Psychiatry, Government Medical College, Jammu.
Chaudhry Lal Singh was invited for the inauguration of the newly constructed Psychiatric Diseases Hospital. This was a formal occasion, to mark the opening of the new building.
The doctors of the Psychiatry Department were standing on a side, witnessing the proceedings.
After the minister cut the ribbon of the building, he came upstairs to the hall where he had to deliver a speech to mark the opening of the hospital.
Dr Gurmeet Kaur was standing in this hall with a colleague. Eyewitnesses say that Chaudhry Lal Singh walked towards Dr Gurmeet Kaur and asked her arrogantly, "Where is your apron?"
She replied that since it was a social function, she did not think that an apron was required here. The minister shouted back that this is an official function.
Eyewitnesses said the doctor again politely answered that the apron was not part of the official uniform of the doctor. Also, globally, psychiatrists do not wear an apron even in wards for the comfort of the patient.
On this, the minister shouted at her, "Who has invited her here." Medical Superintendent Dr Osmania Sauda Veeri answered that Dr Gurmeet Kaur is on the staff members.
On this, Chaudhry Lal Singh snapped his fingers at Gurmeet Kaur and said, "Tumhara kaam ho gaya. Chalo niklo bahar."
Then he moved towards the stage, leaving the doctors and nursing staff speechless at his abominable conduct.
Doctors revealed that two days ago, Chaudhry Lal Singh visited Sarwal Hospital. He snubbed the doctors and hospital staff there too and told the Medical Superintendent, "Inke baal to bandhwa," referring to a woman medical officer.
Sources said there is huge resentment among hospitals there too.
Doctors said he has similarly insulted a few medicos at Super Speciality Hospital, Resham Ghar. "Jaisa Raja Vaisi Praja," revealing that he considers himself a king.
A doctor said that from this one can know of his attitude and his anarchist ways. At the Psychiatric Diseases Hospital, Lal Singh was escorted by a large posse of BJP workers who garlanded him with currency notes after he inaugurated the building.
Meanwhile resentment is also brewing among the doctors in Gandhi Nagar hospital as a day earlier, the Health Minister Lal Singh misbehaved with the doctors in the hospital premises.
Pleading anonymity, doctors posted in Gandhi Nagar hospital said that Lal Singh appeared in Gandhi Nagar hospital and asked doctors to stand in queue for a head count. They said that the Minister started counting them in full public view in parking lot in front of the hospital.
"This is insulting and demeaning; if the ministers does not behave, many upright doctors will refuse to serve under him and poor people shall have to suffer due to unwarranted behaviour of the minister" a doctor said. |
