Tara Chand 'ignored' Omar's suggestion to grant mass promotion | | | Fazal Khan Early Times Report srinagar, Mar 9: The new dispensation led by the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed taking some important decisions soon after assuming office has ended the uncertainty which prevailed during the ousted NC-Cong regime. The Education Minister Naeem Akther took a bold initiative by granting mass promotion to the flood hit students in Kashmir thus paving way for the smooth conduct of 2015 session. The erstwhile regime had kept the decision in abeyance due to which students were in a dilemma and unsure about their future. Pertinently, most schools across Kashmir suffered extensive damage due to September 2014 deluge and are closed since then. The erstwhile NC-Cong regime had ordered the closure of schools without devising any strategy for future. Sources told Early Times in the last cabinet meeting of the NC-Cong regime Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had reportedly suggested to his deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, who also held the portfolio of the Education department, to announce mass promotion. Tara Chand, according to the sources, ignored Omar's suggestion and announced that exams would be held in March. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "The NC-Cong regime lacked coordination. Had the ministers of the previous regime sat together after floods and devised a strategy to mitigate the sufferings of people rather than imposing decisions on them it could have helped both the parties win a few more seats in the last assembly polls." He said the people in flood hit Valley came out to vote in large numbers to ensure that National Conference and Congress do stay away from power. "PDP and BJP by entering into an alliance have respected the people's mandate and one hopes that in coming days the present government won't let the masses down." Another decision of the present regime to ensure that pensioners receive their pension by 30th of every month has earned appreciation from the retired government officials. "We used to face lot of problems due to pension amount getting delayed as previous regime never paid any heed towards our problems and sufferings," said a retired government official. He said that previous regime lacked the will and the guts to take people friendly initiatives. "It's unfortunate that they used to believe that hollow slogans are enough to feed people," he added. A politician said that Omar Abdullah wasted lot of time in raking non-issues which did not fall in his domain. "He (Omar) used to pretend as if he only can get the Armed Special Powers Act (AFSPA) revoked from Jammu and Kashmir despite the fact that AFSPA is a central law and security agencies only can take a final call over the issue." He claimed that Omar had given a free hand to his ministers and rarely used to see what they are doing. On the contrary, the new Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, he said, has asked all his cabinet colleagues to keep him updated about their activities and the major decisions they take. "There is lot of difference between the functioning of the previous regime and the new government which is just one week old," he added. |
