Unable to tackle hawkish PDP, BJP acting dovish | OFF THE CUFF | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 9: The footloose overtures of People Democratic Party in tht state coalition has dwarfed Bhartiya Janta party to mere insignificance. While PDP treads to transcend all critical and sensitive issues of the state by taking decisions unilaterally, the BJP ministers, MoS or even the party cadre seems to be a lost lot. If insiders are to be believed the political grapevine ripens to another surprise in offing from the PDP chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed after his daredevil act of release of 2010 riots and terror mastermind Masrat Alam that has raked up national attention which tagged state BJP as a group of buffoons in the governance."After Alam, now it is the turn of Ashiq Hussain Factu," say the insiders. Ashiq Hussain Faktu alias Mohammad Qasim, a former militant commander is serving a life sentence since 1993 for his role in the murder of trade union leader HN Wanchoo. In October 1990, Faktu married Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Aasiya Andrabi. Faktu was released on bail, and became the first militant leader to float the idea of an indigenous separatist movement independent of Pakistan. Such developments in the state since the PDP-BJP coalition took over have become a commonplace phenomenon with PDP going miles ahead in acting unilaterally to affect its own 'ideology' uncaring about its coalition partner. The PDP spokesmen, being active and vocal on all issues defending the acts of chief minister Mufti as routine exercises which they say need not to be discussed with BJP has give a clear and apparent signal that it will be only PDP which will call shots while BJP would only play second fiddle to it. "Our MLAs have submitted a memorandum to the chief minister urging him to take our party into loop before taking any sensitive decisions," said one the senior BJP leader. However he failed to elucidate as to how Mufti reacted to their 'urge' or simply dismissed their 'plea' as inconsequential. However a sardonic development comes from BJP, which have been the mute spectator to all matters except to its fringe elements who dared to speak against the issues. It immediately has raised the position of state spokesperson Sunil Sethi as state chief spokesperson of the party, who will handle media and press in close association with other state spokespersons to ensure forcefully putting the view point of the party. The belief on this change of guard too comes with an element of skepticism. "It is not that Sunil Sethi has been elevated to chief spokesperson to ensure forcefully putting the view point of the party. It is to gag the voices of its MLAs who dared to speak against chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. BJP is under tremendous fear of losing the power if they speak against PDP. The party has lost its track and sooner would lose Jammu also," said Virender Jamwal, a Jammu West voter and Rehari shopkeepers' union leader. |
