After Alam, PDP plans to release Qasim Faktoo | | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 9: Even as the controversy over release of hard core separatist Musarat Alam Butt continues, the government of Jammu and Kashmir headed by Mufti Mohammad Syed has a plan to release Dr. Mohammad Qasim Faktoo who was convicted and awarded life imprisonment by the court for murdering human right activist H N Wanchoo in 1992 and is behind the bars since last over 20 years. The sources informed the Early Times, that PDP government has almost completed all the formalities regarding the release of Dr. Qasim Faktoo and five hundred others presently lodged in various jails across the state. The sources said that after issuing directions to Director General of Police K Rajindra to review all those cases, the police has started a massive exercise to prepare the list of all those persons who could be benefited from government's general amnesty. The sources said that FIR's registered against the stone palters are also been securitized for proper disposal under law. It is pertinent to mention that Dr. Faktoo, husband of Asia Indrabi, chief of hardliner women wing in Kashmir was first detain in 1993 under the Public Safety Act, however after remaining in jail for six years, the TADA Court acquitted him of all the charges. Police after the gap of nearly 3 years rearrested him in the year 2002 after he landed at IGI Airport New Delhi after attending a conference on Kashmir affairs in London and later in the year 2003, Dr. Faktoo was sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case involving H N Wanchoo, the charges denied by Dr. Faktoo. He also moved the court for seeking his release, but his plea was rejected by the court with the argument that "Life imprisonment" means that he (Faktoo) had to stay in jail till his death. It is pertinent to mention that Musarat Alam release has sparked a massive outrage in Jammu region as well as in many parts of the country forcing the Prime Minister of India Narindra Modi to issue the statement regarding his release in the parliament of India. PM Modi while distancing itself from the controversy said that BJP's coalition partner PDP takes the decision of release of Alam unilaterally and did not inform the BJP about their plan of Alam's release. PM also condemn the release of Alam from jail and conveyed his resentment to Mufti Syed over the issue. |
