Drinking water scarcity sparks protest | | | Early Times Report
Kathua, Mar 9: Acute scarcity of drinking water supply triggered protest in village Gobindsar and locals amid slogans against Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department sought immediate restoration of water supply which had been snapped for some two months. Led by Nathu Ram Sharma, Naib Sarpanch protestors raised slogans against concerned PHE officials and alleged that PHE department is deliberately neglecting the area despite assurances made by concerned officers. Naib Sarpanch Nathu Ram said the drinking water supply remains affected for two months following electric motor went out of order. "However the department temporarily replaced which also got out of order after few hours, he said while adding, "the matter was highlighted before concerned authority but nothing has been done till date. Kanchan Padha, a housewife, said women folk have to travel a lot to fetch water from the natural conventional water resource. She lamented earlier villagers use to get water from Railways Station but now the concerned officers to have stopped the public to use water from tank meant for passengers. Mukesh Kumar, a student appealed to state government and district administration to redress their issue related to basic amenities. As per some officials sources, there is some internal rift among PHE ( Mech) employees that affect smooth functioning of the department which is making people to face the burnt. |
