Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 9: It could be called utter neglect of rural students by State Education Department that in the era of information technology, hundreds of students of 25 Higher Secondary Schools of district Doda, are still without any knowledge about computer education as their schools are without necessary computer laboratories.
Sources in the Education department informed Early Times that in district Doda there are 39 Government Higher Secondary schools out of which 25 are in far flung areas in which mostly children from economically weak families are enrolled but surprising having no facilities of computer lab.
"The 14 schools situated in urban areas have computer lab facilities but interesting state government establishes laboratories but forgets to sanction post of teachers in these urban schools also", sources said, adding that in absence of teachers the gadgets in the computer labs are gathering dust for years and no one was interested to take matter with higher authorities. They further said that it was very interesting that state government has sanctioned 4-5 posts of teachers to far- flung schools but in district Doda, these institutions have no facilities of electricity as well as computer labs but posts of computer teachers are sanctioned and teachers are also posted. "In 1990's no one thought that the computer industry would be a part of our day to day lives one day.
But, now a days, be it banking, ticketing, messaging, day to day accounting or any other work, we use computers practically for every activity of our lives", a scholar Rajesh Singh Jasrotia said, adding that even, education department also guide students to download, upload form and submit fee online but surprising their own students were incapable to switch on these gadgets. He further said that everyone knew that in J&K has not enough job in public sector and everybody didn't receive job in each sector but the alternative private sector most of the companies hired people, who have a good knowledge in computers but in such circumstances students of Doda, would have no option anywhere. When contacted Director School education Jammu Simranjeet Singh said that he had joined recently but assured that he would discuss the issue with Chief Education Officer (CEO) Doda and would take proper action.
