European Organization felicitates Buddhist leader from Ladakh at Geneva | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 4: In a rare confluence of science and spirituality, His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa, a leading Buddhist leader from Ladakh has been recognized by CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research at Geneva, for his contribution to science and spirituality. His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa, spiritual leader of the Drupka order of Buddhism based in Ladakh, who recently undertook 800km long padyatra from Varanasi to Lumbini to highlight ecological balance and promote cleanliness in accordance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and is acknowledged for his philanthropy and initiatives to promote awareness on issues related to environmental preservation, education and gender equality. The Gyalwang Drukpa has been felicitated at CERN's event on "Science Meets Buddhism: Great Minds, Great Matters" at which he discussed the intersection of science, philosophy and spirituality with leading scientists. He said, "Buddhist philosophy shares some common ground with modern scientific principles." Director-General Rolf Heuer, and CERN theorists Gian Giudice and Michelangelo Mangano were the other key prominent members who addressed topics such as the origins of the universe and the differences between knowledge and understanding. His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa is the spiritual head of the 1000-year-old Drukpa sect based in the Himalayas, with around 1,000 monastic centers and millions of followers worldwide. His mission is to promote universal harmony and inner peace while he endevoured to promote gender equality and environmental protection, performed under a secular global NGO- Live to Love (www.livetolove.org). He is the founder and spiritual director of the award-winning Druk White Lotus School in Ladakh, India, popularly known as "Rancho's school" from Aamir Khan's film the "3 Idiots"; the school provides its students with a modern education while preserving their local culture. Besides this His Holiness established several nunneries under the umbrella of "Druk Gawa Khilwa" in the Himalayas that teach traditional spiritual practices, English, Hindi, Himalayan languages and computer skills as well as martial arts. |
