MLA secures stay on eviction notice, others follow suit | Ex-legislators refuse to vacate govt accomodation | | Akshay Azad Early Times Report Jammau, Apr 4: Around a dozen former legislators have refused to vacate official accommodation. A former legislator of National Conference has recently secured a stay from the court against the eviction notice issued by Estates department and if sources are to be believed, many other legislators have been contemplating and might follow the suit. Sources informed Early Times that a former MLA, who was not even a minister in Omar led coalition government had been occupying a palatial government house in New Rehari Colony. "Despite the fact that he owns a big palatial house in Muthi, which is given on rent to the department of Narcotics Control Bureau at Rs 50 thousands per month. Sources said another former Minister of Congress continues to stay in New Rehari colony. They further said that a former MLA from RS Pura area, enjoys a government bunglow in Gandhi Nagar despite the fact that he was not even an MLA in former coalition government. Sources further divulged that an MLA of Congress, who remained in limelight for his controversial remarks against National Conference General Secretary Mustafa Kamal, while another former MLA from Jammu, besides a former MLA of a regional party of Jammu and many others continue to occupy government accommodations, despite expiry of their tenure as legislators. Sources further informed that a former Minister in NC-Congress coalition, who had recently vacated his government quarter in Canal Road area, was presently camped in a private hotel near Bahu Plaza. "The former Minister is working overnight to secure a private building on rent but for the last four or five days, he is retiring in the hotel and failed to get any private accommodation", sources said. They further added that though the above said Congress Minister had willingly left his government accommodation but all other former legislators were not as prudent as him, and some of them have been contemplating to knock the door of court to secure stay. An official of Estate Department, pleading anonymity said that eviction notice has so far not been issued against any former legislator. "We have a list of former legislators, who continue to hold accommodations despite expiry of their tenure. These leaders have strong political patronage and we cannot do anything until the government orders their eviction", he said, adding that there were number of former MLA and MLC's who refused to vacate bunglows, despite notices by department. |
