Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Apr 4 : The former leader of National Conference Dr Mehboob Beg who during assembly elections joined PDP on Saturday said he has no regrets over joining the party and feels proud over Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's 'far-sighted approach'. Beg, son of NC stalwart late Mirza Afzal Beg, said PDP patron's approach towards Kashmir is worth appreciating and that the people of the state have now acknowledged his leadership qualities. Mehboob Begh says he feels proud when on the floor of the legislative assembly, Mufti asks for taking Huriyat Conference and Pakistan on board for the everlasting solution of Kashmir issue. "You are openly calling for the resolution of Kashmir by saying Mehboob Beg has to be taken on board. You are saying this to RSS and this has to be acknowledged," Beg said. He maintained that the CMP between the BJP and PDP vindicates that PDP is not a party of power hungry people but wants not to undermine its principles for the petty political gains. "If the case would have been otherwise, Mufti sahib could have easily rushed to Raj Bhavan but it took PDP more than two months to frame the CMP wherein unity in diversity of the state of Jammu and Kashmir could be maintained," he said, adding that the people earlier have seen how the government was formed by the political parties in Jammu and Kashmir. "I am PDP man and is proud as a Kashmiri for being the part of it," Beg said. He maintained that at the time when he declared his support to PDP patron, it was the thought to which he accorded his support. "PDP has been very much successful in maintaining the integrity of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. There has been no compromise as far as Kashmir's interests are concerned." Stating that he would be ready to serve the party in whatever capacity he would be asked to, Dr Beg who has served south Kashmir as a Lok Sabha member said he would continue to support Mufti's visionary approach for the state.
