Srinagar, Apr 4 : Only one-way traffic was partially resumed on the Srinagar-Jammu nation highway, this afternoon after remaining suspended for four days."We allowed over 600 vehicles, mostly trucks and oil tankers, which were stranded on this side of the Jawahar tunnel, to move towards Jammu this afternoon,\" Inspecror General of Police, Traffic, J P Singh said. He said vehicles are moving towards Jammu after the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) removed the landslides and reconstruct the damaged road at Magarkote. He said traffic will ply from Jammu to Srinagar tomorrow subject the weather and road condition. The highway which was thrown open yesterday afternoon was closed after few hours due to landslides and damaged cause to road at Magarkote. However, BRO, responsible for the maintainance of the road, pressed into service sophisticated machine and men to clear the fresh landslides. Official sources said traffic was resumed on the highway on April 2 afternoon but was again closed in the evening due to landslides. About 800 trucks, mostly empty and oil tankers, which were stranded on this side of the Jawahar tunnel for the past about one week, were allowed to move towards Jammu on April 2. |
