Residents rue mushrooming of Jhuggies in vacant plots | Resent power pilferage, apprehend criminal activities | | Early Times Report
Vijaypur, Apr 12: Residents of Vijaypur have been weary of the brazen pilferage of power in the town triggered by the nexus between hutments of the non local labour and the lower rung staff of the PDD, due to which they have to suffer despite paying their power revenue as per the approved tariff. The prominent people of Vijaypur town told ET that non local labourers residing in the uninhabited plots within the vijaypur municipality have established close to two thousand Jhugies without any permission for the authorities. The plot owners are receiving rent from each jugi @ Rs. 200 - 250 per month, while the families living in them are misusing electricity by using all electronic gadgets. Residents disclosed that concerned meter readers and linemen are collecting Rs. 200/- per month from each jhugi owner, but this money is distributed within the officials of PDD for shutting their eyes to the gross violation. They also rue that the authorities have allowed the line staff to overstay on same places of postings for decades, thus patronizing the mafia. Besides the brazen misuse of power, these people have been causing insanitation in the area and since they have no identity, they can easily be lured into criminal and anti national activities. "We have expressed our apprehensions to the civil administration as well as police , but the civil they too have maintained a deaf ear to our issues" said an elderly resident. They urged to the Govt. to issue the direction to the concerned authorities to take the identification from the plot owners and also issue the direction to them to take the electric connection for establishing each jhugies so that the revenue is increased and the corrupt practices are be checked. |
