Why do Jammu tourism projects get delayed? | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 12: During the recently concluded budget session leaders of all the political parties stressed the need for improving tourist infrastructure in the state to invite more tourists. Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed also addressed some seminars in Gulmarg, Jammu and Srinagar to enthuse confidence among the tour operators and other stake holders of the tourism industry. He stressed on tourist promotion to ensure greater participation of local people attached with the tourism industry. The tourism activity in Kashmir valley got a fillip ahead of the summer season. Opening of Tulip garden and improved weather in the valley offered lot of packages for the tourist population. Ironically, when it comes to promotion of tourism activities in Jammu region the entire state government machinery is relying on repeating old slogans and not taking tangible measures. Several projects conceptualized by the previous regime are yet to either take off or embroiled in tardy processes resulting in their delay. The construction of ambitious Cable Car project to connect Royal Complex Mubarak Mandi with Peer Kho - Mahamaya - Bahu Fort is likely to face more delay pending certain technical formalities. The total land envisaged in the project is yet to be acquired and compensation amount is yet to be distributed to those whose land has been acquired. The state government is also awaiting report of the soil testing process, a mandatory requirement for installation of the towers for Cable Car. Similarly beautification of the Tawi front near hotel Fortune, Maharaja Hari Singh Park and Tawi Lake project are also nowhere near completion. |
