His own men abandoning PM Modi, BJP | Swami calls a spade a spade | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is no longer hailed by his own constituency. Now, hardly anyone claps when he speaks. Now, hardly anyone raises the "Modi, Modi, Modi" slogan, as he has lost most of his appeal and sheen. In fact, many switch off their TV sets when Narendra Modi starts speaking. In Jammu and Kashmir, all those who committed a "mistake" by voting for the BJP in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections are cursing themselves, saying "why did they vote for a party of bluffers and cheaters"? They have almost abandoned the BJP and denounced Narendra Modi and his government for what they have done to them after March 1, when the BJP became part of the Jammu and Kashmir government. The BJP under the questionable leadership of Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and the coterie which surrounds them have caused irreparable damage to their own constituency, to the state and to the country as a whole. They are "willfully" creating an environment in the state that would help separatists and communalists in the Valley to further their seditionist agenda. The general view in Jammu and Ladakh is that the BJP is all out to drive Jammu and Kashmir away from India and that's the reason the people of these two regions, besides Kashmiri Pandits and others, are distancing themselves from the BJP. One of their serious allegations against the Prime Minister and his advisors is that the "BJP has handed over everything to the Kashmiri ruling elite, which is systematically undoing all that the country did during the past 67 years to integrate the state with India" and that "the BJP is deliberately weakening the nationalist constituency in the state to help the separatists achieve their goal". And on Saturday, Subramanian Swamy bomb exploded in Delhi. In fact, PM Modi's decision to buy 36 Rafale fighter jets in fly-away condition under a new deal with France come under severe criticism from Subramanian Swamy, a prominent member of the BJP. After meeting French President Francois Hollande in Paris on Friday, Modi announced that Indian Air Force will get 36 Rafale jets which is apart from the Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) agreement for 126 more planes. But senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy termed the new Rafale fighter jet deal between India and France "a case of arbitrariness". Swamy is yet to decide on what action to take over Modi government's decision to purchase 36 aircraft from France. Swamy said, "I have not yet decided on whether to approach the court. I am waiting for papers on the new Rafael deal. It prima facie appears to be a case of arbitrariness." He requested Modi not to go ahead with the Rafale deal, which was negotiated by the previous UPA government, and said the performance of the French jet "turned out to be worst of all the aircraft" in Libya and Egypt. "There are two major issues with the Rafale aircraft deal which would embarrass the BJP government. The first is that Rafale is less fuel efficient aircraft and lacking in essential performance characteristic that no country in the world has agreed to buy these aircraft…If the Prime Minister for some other 'compulsion' decides to go ahead with the deal, I will have no option but to approach the court in PIL to get it set aside," Swamy said in a statement. What he said could be construed as a first major attack of a senior party leader on the working style of PM Modi. Indeed, he called a spade a spade and showed the path to his other colleagues in the party. It must have rattled the PM, the BJP and the likes of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who is playing all the shots and influencing policy decisions. It is being alleged Arun Jaitley "crafted the new arrangement between India and France during his brief spell as the Defence Minister earlier". It is pertinent to mention here that under the Modi dispensation senior party leaders, including Home Minister Rajnath Singh and External affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, have been sidelined. They have no say in the government. Besides, them, there are several other ministers in the Union Government from the BJP who are feeling suffocated. |
