Traffic regulation mechanism falls dismally inadequate | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 12: With increasing incidents of road accidents, the traffic police may have geared up its men and machinery to check the menace but when it comes to regulating the traffic on the city roads the traffic police department seems to have failed to evolve a comprehensive traffic management plan. The focal point of their strategy, traffic signal lights, installed few years ago seems to be biggest stumbling block to implement any such plan. The manner in which the traffic signal lights were installed in haste to meet the fast approaching deadline it has not served any purpose especially during peak hours as several busy rotaries and main roads remain choked due to overcrowding of vehicles and poor lane management. Ongoing construction work of the portion of fly over between Govt degree college Ganghi Nagar and Vikram Chowk has also compounded miseries of the traffic police department as it causes long traffic snarls depending on the pace of the construction work. Across other vantage locations either the traffic signal lights have been kept on the blinker mode or have gone out of order. Due to VVIP movement in the old city area and in and around civil secretariat complex the traffic police authorities struggle to regulate the traffic on the busy roads but else the situation is worrisome. The worst affected is the stretch between the High Court and New Plot, Canal road, Apsara road, Jewel Chowk,Talab Tillo. Official sources claimed that the state govt in office has initiated steps in the right direction to ensure proper regulation of traffic in the coming months. Efforts are also on to change the location of the some of the traffic signal lights to ease the burden depending on the peak hour rush |
