Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 12: With army of educated unemployed in the state breaching five lakhs mark, both the recruiting agencies namely JKPSC and the JKSSRB have been playing with the lives of the youth due to their lackadaisical attitude.
Shamefully, the Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Recruitment Board (JK SSRB) the only recruitment agency of state for non-gazetted posts, despite lapse of two years has failed to fill up six posts of Assistant Tourist Officers (ATO).
Ashok Sharma, aspirant for the post informed Early Times that in December, 2012 JK SSRB had invited applications for six posts of ATOs but till date the recruitment agency has failed to move a step forward.
Pertinently, 28 Tourism Development Authorities (TDA) have so far been constituted by state government in last few years, out of which one dozen are functional. The state government created six post of Assistant Tourist Officers to work in these authorities, but due to the lackadaisical approach of SSRB , two years on the agency has not yet started the recruitment process .
Sharma further said that hundreds of trained young men and women pass out from the Jammu University run tourism and hospitality courses , but government has failed to provide any employment avenues despite the fact that tourism industry in J&K needs trained professionals to grow.
"Presently, the employees working in Tourism department and corporation have no professional qualification due to which the state has failed to make good progress toward the promotion of tourism across the state", Sharma said.
An official of Tourism Department pleading anonymity said that due to shortage of Tourist officers, one Assistant Tourist Officer is manning more than two districts which is ridiculous.
When contacted, SSRB Secretary Khurshid Ahmad Shah said that the syllabus for said posts has been formulated and shall be published soon. "The Board shall conduct the entrance test of these posts in the month of June", he said.
