BJP preferred power over AIIMS for Jammu: JKNPP
4/13/2015 12:06:21 AM
Early Times Report

Balpur (Majalta), Apr 12: Accusing the ruling alliance of perpetuating bias against Jammu region, Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) and former Minister, Harsh Dev Singh today lambasted the BJP for what he called its "obsequious submission" to the whims of its coalition partner for petty political gains thus belying all legitimate hopes and anticipations of the people of this region.
Addressing a rally here after a series of protests were held by JKNPP activities for restoration of AIIMS to Jammu, Singh said: "BJP which had climbed the ladder of power on the slogan of Empowerment of Jammu gave the biggest shocker to Jammuites by surrendering the most prestigious Rs 1600 crore AIIMS project to Kashmir despite the same having been sanctioned for Jammu."
He said that recent Assembly session witnessed the "spineless" Jammu based legislators obediently succumbing to the "diktats" of their Kashmir counterparts quite unmindful and deliriously oblivious of the lofty promises made by them during Assembly elections.
He said that rather than fighting for the cause of Jammu region they maintained a obsequious posture thus submitting to the whims of a largely dominant PDP leadership and playing a second fiddle to them by endorsing their policies and programmes.
Seeking the restoration of AIIMS to Jammu, Singh reminded the BJP of the statements made by two Union Ministers in New Delhi on 28th Feb., 2015 categorically announcing the establishment of the said institute in Jammu. He said that even otherwise Jammu with its highly fragile health care system desperately needed a premier Health Institution as the people of the region were often referred to places like Delhi, Chandigarh and Amritsar for specialized treatment.
He said Kashmir already had a super specialty institute named SKIMS in Soura which was well equipped with advanced technology capable of providing specialized treatment for all kinds of ailments. Further, he said, the Chief Minister had recently announced an additional Rs. 150 crore for upgradation of cancer institute in SKIMS. Despite that, he deplored, the BJP leadership failed to rise to the occasion and seek the establishment of AIIMS in Jammu and allowing its shifting to Kashmir thus administering the most obriouzious doze of discrimination to Jammu region.
