Land Mafia in nexus with corrupt revenue officials continues to encroach land of migrant Kashmiri Pandits (KPs) with impunity in Kashmir with authorities turning a nelson’s eye and files pertaining to
complaints of Helpless KPs biting dusts in government offices.
Not for the first time it has surfaced that agricultural land measuring 8 Kanals 12 marlas under Khasra number 170 of one Thakur lal Singh son of Makhan Singh and 3 Kanals 16 marlas of another migrant KP
namely Boboo Daughter of Makhan Singh under Survey number 14 of village Sedpora of South Kashmir’s Shopian District was encroached by Land Mafia in nexus with Revenue official s.
According to Vikramjeet singh son of Makhan singh, in 1996 when militancy was at its peak in Kashmir and most of the KPs migrated to Jammu, his family also migrated to Nagrota Jammu, leaving behind
everything including their 8 kanal 12 marlas of land with one neighbor who were already tillers of their land after getting complete assurance from them of safety of everything until their return to Kashmir.
He said that when in year 2000, they returned back to Kashmir they were informed that their tillers in nexus with one noted Patwari of Shopian had manipulated the revenue records and changed ownership rights of 8 kanals,12 marlas. “My Father being humble in nature offered them 4 Kanals, 6 marlas out
of 8 kanals 12 marls as a gift to safeguarding land in our absence, but they refused to return remaining 4 kanals and 6 marlas instead with the help of one Patwari Changed Ownership Documents, which
compelled us to approach auhorities to intervene but of no use as the case pending till date in DC office.”Added Vikramjeet Singh.
In another case according to Documentary evidence, agricultural land plot measuring 3 kanals 16 marlas under survey number 14 of village Sedpora of Shopian which belongs to one Boboo daughter of Makhan Singh
presently migrant in Ban-Talab Jammu was encroached during the peak of militancy in Kashmir by one politically backed person after according to sources bribing one noted Patwari of Shopian to change revenue
Documents illegally in absence of Migrant Boboo and her family. Talking to Early Times, Family members of Makhan Singh and Boboo said that in both the cases they filed separate cases against encroachers
in year 2000 in the office of then Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, However after Shopian was given the status of District in 2007, both cases were transferred to Shopian and till date both cases are pending
in the office Additional Deputy Commissioner Shopian and added that they have no option except to wait for Justice helplessly. When Contacted Additional Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Mehraj-ud-din- Rather said that ‘there are many other cases of Migrant and non migrant Kashmiri Pandits of the different parts of Shopian in which land has been encroached by people over the years, However they always try to solve such cases in Priority with an intention to deliver Justice on time without taking sides or bowing down under pressure.’
Pertinently in many other cases as reported already, land Mafia in nexus with influential revenue officials in Kashmir encroaching agriculture and Temple land as well of migrant KPs continues to enjoy
impunity and complaint cases of KPs are biting dust.
