In 5 yrs, SVO registers 287 cases, produces challan in 42 | Corruption zindabad! | |
Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 30: From January 2011 to April 2015, the State Vigilance Organization (SVO) registered 287 cases of corruption against government officials but so far challans have been produced in 42 cases only. The cases have been registered against officials hailing from various departments. They include accountants, clerks, engineers, technicians and others. According to details available with Early Times, since January this year, 19 cases were registered in Jammu division. Last year, the number of cases stood at 35 while it was 17 in 2013, 28 in 2012 and 20 in 2011. Similarly in Kashmir division, 25 cases were registered till April this year. In 2014, the number of these cases was 44, 19 in 2013, 34 in 2012 and 28 in 2011. Sources said that in 2011 and 2012, challan was produced in just 12 cases in the anti-corruption court. “Most of the cases are pending due to political interference and connections of the accused in bureaucratic circles,” the sources said. “It is really surprising that in 52 months, there are more than 287 cases registered against the government officials hailing from various departments. Political domination, nepotism and non-cooperation of the departments has virtually made the SVO a toothless tiger which can roar and only roar,” said one of the officials pleading anonymity. “Most of the departments are reluctant in sharing with the SVO the case history of the accused. As a result the cases gather dust and accused roam free,” said the sources. They said that SVO is looking forward at the new government so that strict orders are passed to the departments to cooperate with it and that political domination no longer shields the culprits.
