Bad road connectivity triggers protest at Jagatpur, people live in medieval period

Kathua, Apr 30: Hundreds of people belonging to Schedule Caste community still live in medieval period as bad road connectivity ceases their livelihood and affects daily routine especially of students and minor hailing from Jagat Pur merely 2 Km from Gateway of J&K Lakhanpur from where government collects huge revenue everyday but people living in surrounding have to live in miserable condition.
Roop Singh, Sarpanch of the Panchyat made an estimate of 7.50 lacs for the construction of 1.50 Km road in 2011-12 but former MLA Charanjeet Singh who brought revolution of development in Rajputs localities refused to construct such road and made several excuses. Sarpanch, while addressing to protesters, alleged on previous MLA and Rural department to add the sufferings of people who live in miserable condition and department ignored their appeals. He added bad road connectivity affect the drinking water supply being provided by PHE through water tanks, people drink dirty water of ponds that leaves bad affect on their health. Asha Devi, an ASHA worker, said it becomes difficult for pregnant women to reach hospital on time due to temporary soiled road. She informed that many miscarriages occurred in previous years and women lost their children before births. She demanded black topping on existing road that would help pregnant women to reach hospital on time. Suresh Kumari, inhabitant of ward no. 5 Jagat Pur wept out before media and said people live in Medieval period. While recalling Indus Valley Civilization period when township was praise worthy, she said District administration must learn from rich civilization period. The protesters alleged on official Rural department to deliberately ignore their sufferings as they belong to downtrodden section of the society. They demanded black topping as students could not reach school on time and warned government to block National highway unless redress of their long pending demand. When contacted to ADDC Kathua, S. Manmohan Singh, he assured to find out the reason of abandonment of such road that falls under Municipal Committees. He said XEn and BDO would be called soon and possible instruction would be pass soon to construct the said road. ADDC said Sarpanch and Panchs of Jagat Pur ward no. 5 must prepare a plan that will be passed on priority basis.
