MENDHAR, Apr 30 : Two persons, including an army jawan, were killed after their Tata Sumo fell into a deep gorge at Chhata Gali near Pir Ki Gali on Mughal Road here last night. The ill-fated Tata Sumo (JK12/9014) left Mendhar and was plying on the Mughal Road when the incident occurred, according to police sources.The cab dropped some youth, who were to take part in a TA recruitment rally at Surankote, and left for some place on the Mughal Road. When it left Surankote, a total of five persons, including the driver, were travelling in it, sources said. It fell into the gorge last night but was found lying in over a 100-ft-deep gorge by some locals this morning. After the matter was brought to their notice, police and army teams reached the spot at about 8 am and started the rescue operation. After searches, that continued for nearly eight hours, the rescue team could find only two bodies which were later taken to the hospital mortuary. Identity of the dead was established as Riaz Ahmad, son of Shakil Ahmad, a sepoy in 13 JAK Li, of Gursai and Ghulam Mohiudin, son of Nissar Hussain of Thanamandi, Rajouri. It is believed that other three occupants of the cab had alighted somewhere on the way before it met with the accident. Behramgala police post incharge, SI Tariq Ahmad said police were trying to find out who the other three persons were. |
