Bikram Chowk under beggars' siege, Police clueless
5/22/2015 11:42:50 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, May 22: With Tourist season underway and Shri Amaranth pilgrimage around the corner, army of beggars has invaded Jammu and police and administration continues to be inert despite a well defined anti-begging legislation in the state.
While scores of children and women threaten to crash into your car at the red light at Bikram chowk, more alarming is the new innovation in the 'trade', wherein a couple of male beggars appear in attire and make up of women, posing to be eunuchs. "After pushing in children and little girls attired as goddesses into the menace, this is the latest idea" said Vinod Nagpal, waiting for the green light. "They know that people donate generously to the eunuchs and that is why they have espoused this look" he added.
While these imposters are making quick buck disguising as eunuchs, many believe it is cheating and breach of trust. "This is nothing but deceit and such people need to be booked" said a shopkeeper in Bikram chowk area. Sources divulge that there are two clans of beggars who have literally usurped busy Bikram Chowk crossing and with each member of the family irrespective of age working overtime in this menace of begging, they make quite a handsome amount by evening.
The police are totally oblivious of their duty and role in curbing this menace. Besides the fact that begging is illegal and unlawful, these beggars who have come to Jammu from several other states of the country pose a serious security threat. As they san any identity, they can easily fall prey to those pursuing nefarious designs.
