KPCC chief strikes conciliatory chord to scuttle rebellion
Tara Chand still in a state of 'hibernation'

Early Times Report
Jammu, May 22: As the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee President GA Mir has succeeded to stifle the voices of 'rebellion' to some extent in Jammu province, most of the leaders including some ex ministers have fallen in line in what can be deciphered from their voluntary participation in party activities during last few weeks. What makes absence conspicuous is that of former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand besides a couple of more senior leaders who have remained elusive from all functions and activities post elevation of Mir as the state unit chief. Why and how long Tara Chand shall remain in a state of self imposed 'hibernation' is the question being asked in murmurs within rank and file of the party.
Sources said that while most of the Jammu based leaders have responded positively to conciliatory approach of PCC Chief, Tara Chand has not made any public appearance in any of the party programmes nor issued any statement on his own over any issue, leave alone showing any gesture to accept Mir as the new PCC chief. Sources said after his defeat in the Assembly polls and decimation of Congress as a whole, ex Deputy Chief minister has not come out of his 'shell' nor initiated any activity which many of his ex colleagues have now begun. Tara Chand's passive approach has intensified more after Mir was elevated to the post of party chief, sources said adding that like many in the Ghulam Nabi Azad camp this has not gone well with him too.
Sources further added what has come as a shock is the fact that his name did not figure in the name of senior functionaries of PCC executive when it was announced last month by the Congress high command. Sources said even though Tara Chand has been made as executive member of the party's Disciplinary Committee, he is far from being satisfied with this designation. However, party sources said the high command has assigned the new tasks and posts to the party leaders after thorough consideration as to who would be able to deliver on what assigned tasks. Sources further said Tara Chand already enjoys a proper protocol and other facilities in lieu of he having remained Deputy Chief Minister as well as on the prestigious post of Speaker of Assembly. On that note, he should not have felt concerned for having been assigned in what he is understood to be of less significance or a low prestige designation.
Sources further said the PCC chief who is trying to scuttle the attitude of defiance with what is being seen as his re conciliatory strategy has succeeded to a great extent but has not been able to break the 'ice' as yet with the former Chief Minister. How long the latter will take to come out of hibernation remains to be seen.
