Early Times Report

MENDHAR, May 22: Locals and relatives of CAPD employees - Fazal Hussain (wayman) and storekeeper Mohammad Kabir who were allegedly beaten by Mendhar SDPO Surinder Choudhary three days back - today boycotted their meeting with additional SP, Poonch, demanding action against the guilty police officer.
Fazal's one tooth was broken in the alleged torture by Choudhary while Kabir had developed severe problem in his urinary tract. Both were alleged to be involved in an alleged case of misappropriation of CAPD ration. TSO, Mendhar, Abdul Khaliq, who is alleged to be the kingpin, was still absconding.
Fazal and Kabir were allegedly subjected to torture for about four hours Monday last. On Tuesday, his relatives and locals had protested in the town. Today, additional SP, Poonch, Amit Gupta had a meeting with them in the tehsildar's office. As the meeting remained inconclusive, they had a second meeting at Mendhar police station.
When people showed photographs of torture of Fazal and Kabir, the ASP felt sorry and said it should not have happened. Though he termed it as an unfortunate incident, he asked the people if they would like to have a compromise with the SDPO or want police to initiate an inquiry against him.
The ASP's offer angered the people and they told him that the SDPO, who was allegedly a culprit in the case, should not have been present in the meeting. Raising slogans against police and the SDPO, they walked out of the police station and held a demonstration. They made it clear that they wanted legal action against the SDPO. After protesting for a while, they dispersed peacefully.
Local PDP leader Wasim Ahmad Khan demanded chief minister Mufti Mohammad Syed's intervention in the matter and said what was the use of the government if it could not provide justice to the people.
