Jammu, May 22: The Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) has turned out to be a gossip hub for professors who leisure out their time in enjoying the privilege rather than taking up serious business of disseminating knowledge to the students .
Drawing nearly Rs one lac salary per month per head, some of these professors have not taken even a single class in last three years, raising question over rationale of deputing such professors.
Documents in possession of Early Times reveal two professors, one Hindi and other in English working in DDE for years, have not taken even delivered a single lecture in the class since three years.
"Prof Dr Anju Thappa, Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi, Dr Anupama Vohra, department of English have not taken a single class for last five years, during Personal Contact Programme conducted by DDE for under graduate courses", documents reveal.
Documents regarding PCP conducted by DDE for graduation first, second and third year show not a single presence of these teacher during entire programme.
"Time table for PCP B.A. Part-I for session 2010-11 to 2014-15, time table for PCP B.A part-II for session 2012-13 to 2014-15 and time table for PCP B.A part-III for session 2012-13 to 2014-15, have not taken a single lecture ", the copy of lists of teachers' duty during PCP for said period read.
Ridiculing, vice chancellor claims to bring transparency in functioning of university of Jammu, sources said, that DDE seems another autonomous body within the university, where faculty makes rule as per its convenience.
"Despite availability of required, experienced faculty for various courses offered by the DDE, the administration outsources manpower to conduct classes, PCPs, evolution of assignments", sources said, adding that faculty employed at DDE to teach under graduate courses, but for the purposes DDE has to outsource the man power to meet its requirements.
Sources said that the VC should overhaul the rusted faculty of DDE and provide opportunity to those who are willing to extend their best for the students.
