Workers fume, predict one more zero if ULB polls are declared | BJP ministers not at talking terms with each other | | Fazal Khan Early Times Report Srinagar, May 22: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ministers in Jammu and Kashmir have got divided into groups and have failed to function as a single unit leaving the field open for its coalition ally Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Sources told Early Times that most BJP ministers are not at talking terms with each other and they rarely sit together to discuss the issues and take any major decisions. "All the BJP ministers after assuming power have got confined to their shells as they believe that they have achieved their goal," said a source. He said that since the day Civil Secretariat has opened in Srinagar, most BJP ministers have even ignored their party workers. "The BJP ministers staying away from their own people has not gone well with the BJP workers and other party leaders in Kashmir," the source added. Prior to Durbar reopening in Srinagar BJP activists in Kashmir were upbeat about the fact that their own people would enter the Civil Secretariat, highest seat of power, and they would be easily accessible. "When BJP carried out its membership drive in Kashmir region we promised people that they would feel the change on the ground and government would be just a call away. We have failed to keep up our promise and are unable to face the people whom we enrolled in our party," said a BJP leader wishing anonymity. "We carried on a massive membership drive in Kashmir region on the instructions of party high command. We were clearly told that we have to reach out to people so that their problems are identified and addressed," the BJP leader said. "We were even told that four senior party ministers would be assigned the job to cater to the needs of the people from north, south and central Kashmir. We have done all the groundwork but none of the ministers seem to be interested to implement the order of the party high command in letter and spirit." The BJP insiders said that if party ministers don't mend their ways and keep on ignoring their workers and fail to reach out to the common people there is every possibility of party again failing to open its account in Kashmir in the forthcoming Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections. Pertinently, BJP couldn't win a single seat in Kashmir in last year's assembly polls despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi spearheading the election campaign and addressing a major rally in Srinagar. The Kashmir based leaders had to face the wrath of the party high command for providing wrong feedback to them and making them believe that BJP would at least win ten to twelve seats in Kashmir. "If our ministers fail to cooperate with us and help us in addressing issues related to people it can create lot of problems for the workers who are on the ground as we are answerable to the people whom we have persuaded to join the party," said a BJP insider. He said that BJP activists have apprised the party high command about the BJP ministers not taking much interests in the issues related to people. "Our leaders seem to be content with the fact that they have achieved their goal by being a part of the government. They need to think beyond it and reach out to people," he added.
