CII launches India Business & Biodiversity Initiative | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 22: On invitation by the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, CII has launched the India Business & Biodiversity Initiative (IBBI) with the support of the German International Cooperation (GIZ) here today. According to press release, the day is celebrate as International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) by the United nations to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. The IBBI is structured as a broad-based multi-stakeholder platform involving business, government, non-government organizations and academia. After one year of its launch, IBBI today released its second publication "Bridging Business and Biodiversity: Innovative Approaches", which focuses on a step-wise process for companies to understand the business impacts and dependencies on biodiversity and ecosystem services (B&ES). The report highlights concept of Natural Capital and its relation with B&ES, it familiarizes the global platforms for Natural capital and also IBBI's part in it. It introduces the various tools incubated by IBBI for companies to help them identify direct and indirect impacts (both positive and negative). And finally, the best practices adopted and benefits accrued in relation to B&ES by six companies who are part of IBBI program. Edgar Endrukaitis, Director, Indo-German Biodiversity Programme (GIZ); R. Mukundan, Chairman, India Business & Biodiversity Initiative (IBBI); and Managing Director, TATA Chemicals Ltd; Mr Shiekh Imran, Vice Chairman, CII J&K State Council & Director, Kashmir Sunsilk Industries Pvt Ltd were amongst the key dignitaries present at the launch of the Initiative. |
