Early Times Report
KATHUA, May 22: Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Jammu & Kashmir Region, organized an awareness seminar at Chenab Textile Mills (CTM), Kathua.
The function was presided over by KC Sharma, Executive President, CTM. Deputy Director Sindo Ram gave an overview of various provisions of benefits available in the ESI Scheme and emphasized the need of prompt registration of employees and payment of contribution in order to seamlessly ensure benefits for the covered employees. He also apprised the audience about certain changes made in the scheme particularly pertaining to super specialty treatment.
These included exclusion from super specialty treatment of congenital disease of children of covered employees born before his himself being eligible for super specialty treatment, of spouse having disease requiring super specialty treatment from a time before his registration under the ESI Act.
Stake holders, however, expressed their deep concern on certain changes made in the provisions of the scheme which are against the interest of the ESI beneficiaries. Such changes as entitlement for medical treatment form date of registration, limiting of super specialty treatment expenses, putting preexisting disease exclusion clauses in respect of insured employee or their dependent children, reduction of validity of temporary identity card issued by employers to employees, etc. were termed by them as hurting the interests of the employees. They demanded roll back of the same.
Regional Director, ESIC, Arvind Kumar, gave an overview of the facilities and plans for Kathua area such as starting of ambulance services since last year, provision of adequate medicine in ESI Dispensary, getting approval of Regional Board for an ESI Hospital for Kathua-Samba cluster, steps for special repairs and modernization of ESI Dispensary building through CPWD.
