Srinagar based defence spokesman, Lt Col N N Joshi in a press statement said that a patrol of a forward Battalion led by a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), moving close to the LoC in the area of Tangdhar intercepted an infiltrating group of militants. "In the heavy exchange of fire that followed, the infiltrating group was beaten back leaving behind one dead militant from whom one AK-47, one Pistol and other administrative items were recovered. During the firefight, four jawans sustained injuries of which three succumbed and one is out of danger. As per last reports, the operation is still in progress," said the defence spokesman. Today's infiltration bid comes just few days after the recent two day visit of the state by Defence Minister, Manohar Parrikar. During his visit the Defence Minister visited some of the forward areas in the Jammu division. He paid a visit to highest battlefield in the world the Siachen glacier and interacted with jawans at Leh in Ladakh region. It would be in place to mention here that army officials have been maintaining that infiltration bids are likely to increase once the snow starts melting on the mountains and the higher reaches. It has also been said that scores of militants are waiting for an opportunity to sneak in from the other side of LoC. As such the coming months would be a challenge for the army personnel to thwart any infiltration attempts being carried out by militants. |
