BOPEE again plays with career of students

Early Times Report

Srinagar, May 25: Nearly 7000 candidates who had filled the online forms for Common Entrance Test (CET) would not be able to sit in the examinations slated for May 30, thanks to Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE). About 30,000 students had filled the application forms; however, around 7000 students have not been able to download the admit cards. The desperate candidates have been moving from pillar to post but to no avail.
The authorities in BOPEE express their helplessness, saying that the applicants were supposed to submit the hard copies of the forms in BOPEE offices after filling the online forms and depositing the prescribed fee.
The applicants, however, allege that they were not informed by the BOPEE about submitting the hard copies against proper receipts.
"There was no prior information given to the students through any mass media and we presumed that filling up forms online was the only pre-requisite," an aggrieved candidate Tawqeer-un- Nisa told Early Times.
When contacted, chairman BOPEE, G H Tantray said that the applicants were supposed to submit the hard copies of the examination forms and receive confirmation sheets from the BOPEE offices, a pre-requisite for issuance of admit cards.
Tantray claimed that the applicants were informed through media to submit the hard copies of the examination forms and get confirmation sheets.
He said out of 30,000 students who applied around 7000 failed to submit the hard copies due to which they could not get admit cards.
However, candidates term it a grave error on part of the BOPEE. "The fact remains that they never told us to submit the hard copies after filling up of the online forms," a group of students said.
Scores of aggrieved candidates from different parts of Valley were seen pleading before the BOPEE authorities in Srinagar for issuance of admit cards. However, the BOPEE authorities expressed their helplessness.
Pertinently, the credibility of the BOPEE has dented since the infamous CET scam surfaced in 2012.
