'Favourtism in SMVDU at the cost of Holy exchequer' | VC attempts to re-employ ineligible professor | | Avinash Azad
Early Times Report
Jammu, May 25 : Already in the spotlight for wrong reasons, the Vice-Chancellor of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) Katra has been allegedly trying to re-employ a professor who happens to be one of his close associates. Sources said the VC Prof S K Jain was trying his best to give undue benefit to Dr V Verma (ex-professor at School of Bio-Technology) who was re-employed on June 1, 2013 in violation of the UGC guidelines. Prof Jain's two-year ago contract ends next week. "Dr Verma has been receiving a monthly salary of Rs 1 lakh for the last two years. Besides, Prof Jain while fixing the huge package for Dr Verma ignored that the latter has been drawing pension of Rs 43,000 as well since his retirement from RRL (now IIIM Jammu) in 2007," the sources said. They said that even during his service in regular Professor Grade without fulfilling eligibility under AICTE as well UGC norms for Engineering and Technology, Dr Verma had enjoyed full pay in 37400-67000 AGP 10,000 along with pension, which was illegal under the rules. Dr Verma was appointed as Dean Faculty of Engineering after re-employment in June 2013 though he did not have a degree in engineering, said the sources. "He fails to fulfill eligibility criteria laid down by apex regulatory authorities governing higher and technical education in India," said the sources, adding that Verma was re-employed just a day after retirement. It may noted here that previously Prof. M.L. Garg was also re-employed, but after two years he was not given further extension. |
