ISM dispensaries face dearth of doctors, pharmacists at Kishtwar | 22 health institutions have 20 employees | | Bijay Charak
Early Times Report
Jammu, May 25 : At one hand numerous Ayurvedic doctors, (Indian System of Medicines) are running from pillar to post to get government jobs, on the other, several posts of doctors are lying vacant in various ISM dispensaries. In Kishtwar district, 22 ISM dispensaries have nine Medical Officers and 11 paramedical staff. If one dispensary gets one employee, two dispensaries remain with staff. According to norms, each ISM dispensary needs to have a doctor and a pharmacist. So, in the 22 Kishtwar dispensaries, there should be 22 doctors and 22 pharmacists. According to sources, out of 22 sanctioned posts of ISM doctors in Kisthwar, 13 are lying vacant for the last few years. Some of the dispensaries are virtually being run by pharmacists. Of the 22 sanctioned posts of pharmacists, 11 are lying vacant for the last few years. Sources informed that in the last few years, many ISM doctors had attained retirement but no new doctor has been recruited by the authorities. "It is still unknown that whether the Director has sent the communication to government or not for the advertisement of posts so that doctors are provided in all the ISM dispensaries," sources said. They informed that ISM dispensaries were very useful in far flung areas and also in villages. "ISM dispensaries are the backbone of medical system in our country and with the penetration of allopathic medicines, the government attention towards the sector is diminishing", sources felt. "It is the responsibility of director to take up the matter with the government. Already the interest of youth towards ISM is decreasing and if there will be employment avenues in the sector, the interest of youth will also increase and the village folk will be benefited to a great extent as the ISM system is very cheap and people get medicines free of cost", sources said. When contacted, ISM Director Abdul Kabir Dar said that he would discuss the matter with concerned district officer. |
