Seizure of terrorists' assets: India can't expect help from Pakistan | | | When Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh sought help from Pakistan for tackling terrorism he was actually bothered by the 25-year long moral, material and diplomatic assistance Islamabad and its agencies provided to Kashmiri separatists and militants who were pushed into Jammu and Kashmir from across Pakistan and occupied Kashmir. This is one part of the story from India. Another tall order which New Delhi has issued relates to India's plea to Pakistan for seizing all assets of three dreaded terrorists, Dawood Ibrahim, Hafiz Saeed and Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi. Rajnath Singh has asked Pakistan to extend all help in tackling terrorism as it was also a victim of the menace. Pakistan should extend full cooperation in checking terrorism because the country is facing a similar problem today is the sermon from Rajnath Singh. In fact he was upset by the latest statement of Sartaj Aziz in which Aziz had blamed India for promoting terror. Rajnath singh referred to Pakistan's strong reaction to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar's recent remarks about neutralising terrorists through terrorists, Rajnath Singh openly blamed Pakistan for promoting terrorism when he said that not only India, but the entire world knows who is promoting terrorism. Reacting to Parrikar's comments, Adviser to Pakistan Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz had said it confirmed Islamabad's apprehensions that India was involved in terrorism in that country. Aziz had simply overreacted to Parrikar's simple statement in which he had favoured setting up a counter terror force in the shape of young boys from Jammu and Kashmir. And Aziz gave new dimensions to Parrikar's statement when he said that it must be the first time that a minister of an elected government openly advocates use of terrorism in another country on the pretext of preventing terrorism from that country or its non-state actors. This statement itself indicates that Pakistan is not willing to cooperate with India in containing or tackling the menace of terror. Yes, there is no doubt that Pakistan has started facing the impact of terror in the shape of repeated bomb and gun attacks on civilians, on Army units, on the police and on political leaders still it is not prepared to join hands with India which is engaged in ending the menace of terror. In fact India has been pleading to Islamabad to initiate measures which could ensure that the soil of Pakistan was not used for exporting terror to India, including Jammu and Kashmir. Despite the fact that Islamabad has not conceded even a single demand from New Delhi as for as containing terror is concerned still India has suggested to Pakistan to seize assets of three dreaded terrorists, Dawood Ibrahim, Hafiz Saeed and Zakiur Rehman Lakvi. Dawood is an Indian fugitive who has been living in Pakistan since he was involved in 1993 serial bomb explosions in Mumbai notwithstanding the fact that Pakistan has been in denial mode telling India that Dawood is not in Pakistan. Hafiz Sayeed and Lakhvi are involved in 2008 Mumbai mayhem in which nearly 170 people were killed. India had furnished evidence against Sayeed and Lakhvi in Mumbai terror strike but no action was initiated. Islamabad conveyed to India that evidence submitted against Sayeed was not sufficient and hence Sayeed has been roaming freely in Pakistan and Lakhvi was set free under court order and Islamabad did not file an appeal against the court order as it did not want to annoy Lakhvi. Hence there are least possibilities that Islamabad will consider India's demand for seizing the assets of these three dreaded terrorists. Instead of expecting any helping hand from Pakistan for eliminating the menace of terror it would be better if India banked on its Armed forces and other security agencies for tackling terrorists. |
