Dr Jitendra rejects separatists demand for curtailment in Amarnath Yatra duration 6/5/2015 12:02:50 AM Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 4: Minister of State (MoS) in Prime Minister's Office and senior Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) leader, Dr. Jitendra Singh today said that the annual Amarnath Yatra would be carried out according to the schedule and there would be no curtailment in it. Addressing a press conference here, Dr. Jitendra said that separatist leaders are playing politics over the duration of Amarnath Yatra. He said that there was no scientific evidence to show that the pilgrimage cannot be held throughout the year. 'The duration of Amarnath Yatra is a question which has to be addressed scientifically. We have substantial geology survey reports and scientific evidences which show that you can have Amarnath Yatra throughout the year, of course by keeping checks on environment," said the MoS. Dr. Jitendra said that the duration of two-month period is determined by the auspicious time. He said the dates have been finalized by Shri Amarnath Shrine Board adding that the government will not interfere in the religious part. "The environmental concerns are genuine but they (separatists) are trying to politicize the matter. Barring weather problems, there are no other issues," said the MoS.
