Early Times Report
Jammu, June 4: Right under the nose of so-called tough Education Minister Nayeem Akhtar, Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKDOSE) has not only goofed up but played fraud with more than 150 students of Surankote, who answer scripts, went missing mysteriously two months ago.
They had appeared in the 12th class examination as regular students from three examination centers in Poonch but their answer scripts bundles went missing mysteriously allegedly from the Board Head Office in Jammu and for this gross misconduct and suspicious goof-up, the board officials forced the students of these three centres to again appear in the examination today on June 4, 2015 to hide their incompetence and wrong-doing. That too, at a time when the results are ready and are being delayed primarily because of these 161 students.
And what makes this interesting is that not even a meek voice has either sought probe or action against the delinquent officials of Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE). Secretary who is also Incharge Chairperson Veena Pandita, according to sources ensured that the matter is not only hushed up but it is also ensured that the students appear in the examination again. Sources confirmed that minister knows not even an iota of this scandalous exercise of the J&K board.
They said "He trusts Secretary beyond limits, which is why he is neither visiting the board nor seeking information from sources available on ground." According to sources in Poonch sub-office, answer scripts of two subjects viz. Political Science and Biology of class 12th allegedly went missing after being dispatched from the post-office in Surankote.
They added that Superintendents of the Examination centers no. 4109, 4110 and 4111 claimed that they had properly sealed the answer sheet bundles and handed over to Post-office Surankote for being further dispatched to Board Head office in Jammu. Sources disclosed that the superintendents have proper dispatch receipts of the Post-office with them to prove their innocence.
They added that these three bundles were dispatched from Surankote and thereafter, board never bothered to find out these answer script bundles. Sources said that entire machinery of BOSE remained busy in welcoming the new Education Minister while keeping him allegedly in dark over these missing answer script bundles.
Sources said that none bothered to either lodge an FIR or seek a probe into the missing answer scripts. Instead, they used all the sources at their command to convince students who had already appeared in the Higher Secondary School Examination in March-April as regular students of winter zone to accept the offer for re-examination, said the sources. They said that the offer was accepted by student since they had been clearly told of having no other option.
Since most of the students in these three centers belong to extremely poor families from the rural background, sources said that they accepted the offer to appear in the examination. Not all the students appeared but mostly those who have appeared in various competitive examinations decided to appear for further improving their results and getting grades better than their classmates whose results are ready, said an official of Poonch Sub-Office.
Sources said that their parents were convinced that they would be given grace marks and declared pass in these two subjects provided they appear in the examination and do not create unnecessary hue and cry over the missing answer sheet bundles. Sources confirmed that no FIR was lodged for missing answer scripts nor was any probe initiated. Instead, the students were forced to again appear in the examination. Whether or not, Minister for Education Nayeem Akhter takes cognizance of this news report is to be seen but the fact remains that Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education needs major surgery.
